I thought this might be interest to Metrotown residents. I think spending limits would have a positive impact on local elections.

CityHallWatch: Tools to engage in Vancouver city decisions

This may be one of the best-kept secrets so far in this election, so let’s spread the word and shine a spotlight.

The Special Committee on Local Elections Expense Limits (http://leg.bc.ca/cmt/leel/), a special parliamentary committee of the B.C. Legislature, quietly held four hearings in Victoria and Vancouver the past few weeks to get input on expense limits to apply for local elections in 2018. The meetings were open to the public but only announced by direct invitation to elector organizations. The presentations contain timely and important information, and could be fodder for many discussions and media coverage. Note that the deadline for receiving written submissions is Nov. 21, 2014. (UPDATE: THIS WAS EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 5, 2014) http://t.co/8DPDULC17f

The content of the presentations was posted on the government almost immediately. Please visit this page, look for “Committee Documents and Proceedings,” and click on “HTML” for text transcripts
