In the runup to the election, the City and School District announced an agreement to construct 12 childcare centers at various undisclosed school sites. The money used to pay for these spaces will come from amenity funds contributed by developers in exchange for bonus density in town centers like Metrotown.
Recently, council made changes to the program that took away the provision that amenity funds be spent in the Town center where the density was added.
This will be good for working parents. It will also allow non-profits like Burnaby Family Life to grow.
How do Metrotown residents feel about this policy? What are the childcare needs of residents? Let me know.
